Copy Writing Company | Big Tips For A Small Gift

Giving gifts is stressful, you want to show our appreciation for that special person through something you hope they will love!  It doesn't have to be big; I think we would all rather something small & meaning-full over big & useless!  Keep these tips in mind while wandering through the aisles but remember, if whatever you get them comes from a place of love, they will be pleased!

Make the present an event!

Don’t just hand them the gift, make them search for it!  Like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, leave them clues in a way that is special to your relationship.  It adds that little impact to a little gift that makes it all that much better. Get creative with the packaging! Pretty gift wrapping can give it that added impact it might need.

Random gifts are not the move

Try to think about a gift they can actually use!  Even for someone who has everything, something small like a monogrammed luggage tag or a scented candle can be used for years on. A random gift like another mug or that third vegan cookbook are going to end up in the trash, it's the sad truth.  Study them, know what they need, and deliver it in a small package!

Avoid Self-Improvement Gifts

This one should be pretty obvious but sometimes Grandma needs a little reminder of this before she buys you that exercise book.  Stick with things that don’t give off a subtle snub!  This includes things like a book about a politician even though they have opposing political views, why start a problem on Christmas?!  This tip should be under “How to Not Make Christmas Awkward 2019”

Don’t apologize!

Sometimes with small gifts we feel as though we under-delivered but chances are they are going to appreciate the thought that went into it and won’t be disappointed in the slightest.  They will, however, feel underwhelmed if they know you that you think it wasn't your best work.

Always include a card!

A hand-written note will go a lot longer than the gift itself and make the whole experience that much more special.  Gifting someone something small like a candle will have so much more impact with an attached hand-written card.  Words over presents, always!  And as a bonus, there will be no confusion under the Christmas tree of who gifted what.

Shop for the receiver, not yourself

You might hate the color pink but your best friend lives in pink so the obvious choice would be to buy her something pink!  Don’t not purchase something for a friend because you hate it, remember it isn't for you!  We subconsciously lean towards items that fit our own interests but when giving gifts you have to abandon that mentality and put yourself in their shoes.  Trust me, they will love it and be so impressed that you knew what they would want even if you didn't like it yourself.

Consumable gifts are always appreciated

Everyone loves food!  A beautifully packaged box of chocolate or bottle of wine will go a long way over something like a bottle opener.  Sometimes food is the perfect add-on to something small, to give it that kick it needed.  A candle + a bottle of wine with a nice card = the perfect gift.

Last but not least, the best way to make sure you are getting gifts yourself next year is to write thank you notes!  I cannot stress this enough, thank you notes are so crucial to showing that you appreciate the thought behind their gifts and their presence in your life.  Remember that no one had to get you anything and you don't know how much thought they put into your gift, so maintain those healthy relationships and show gratitude whenever you can!

Wishing you the happiest of holidays from us to you!
